Chris Woakes announces his retirement from playing cricket internationally.

The bowling all-rounder Chris Woakes of England has declared plans to retire from international cricket. After missing out on selection for the Ashes in Australia and making his final appearance in the Oval Test against India, the 36-year-old stated he will continue to play county cricket while also looking at chances in franchise leagues.

According to a statement released by Woakes, "I've decided that it's time for me to retire from international cricket." I feel immensely lucky to have fulfilled my childhood dreams of playing for England, which began when I was a child dreaming in the playground. I will be most proud of my 15 years of playing for England, donning the Three Lions, and sharing the field with teammates, many of whom have become lifetime friends.

Time flies when you're having fun, but it feels like yesterday that I made my debut in Australia in 2011. I never would have imagined being able to lift two World Cups and play in some great Ashes series, and I will never forget the memories and happy times I shared with my teammates.

Thank you for your constant love, support, and sacrifices over the years, Mom and Dad, my wife Amie, and our daughters Laila and Evie. Without you, none of this would have been possible. Thank you to the supporters, particularly the Barmy Army, for your fervor, applause, and faith. To my coaches, teammates, and all the people behind the scenes in Warwickshire and England, thank you so much for your friendship and support.

In the near future, I hope to continue playing county cricket and explore into further franchise options.

Woakes played in both T20Is and ODIs during England's limited-overs tour of Australia in January 2011, marking his debut for his country. Two years later, he made his Test debut by replacing Tim Bresnan, who was injured, in the final Ashes Test at The Oval.

In 62 Test matches, Woakes took 192 wickets. His best match and innings stats were 11 for 102 against Pakistan at Lord's and 6 for 17 against Ireland at the same location. He has one Test century and seven fifties to his credit as a batsman.

Woakes made 122 games for England in ODIs, taking 173 wickets. In his debut series against Australia in Brisbane, he recorded a career-best 6 for 45. In 33 Twenty20 Internationals, he also took 31 wickets. His final Twenty20 International was against the West Indies later that year, while his final One-Day International was against Pakistan during the 2023 World Cup. Woakes went on to win the ODI World Cup in 2019 and the T20 World Cup in 2022. He also contributed to England's white-ball comeback in 2015.

Woakes dislocated his shoulder during his final Test match against India at The Oval, but he still batted on the final day with his left arm in a sling. He was quit off the squad even though he concentrated on getting better so he could play in the Ashes. Woakes was later confirmed to be out of the England men's long-term plans by managing director Rob Key.
